Colorado Springs jail suspect charged with additional bank robbery

A 45-year-old man charged with robbery at two Colorado Springs banks is now facing an additional accusation of robbing a Glenwood Springs US Bank.

The US Bank robbery was in April. The suspect was reportedly identified by two witnesses from the incident who pointed him out from a six-man photographic lineup.

One witness, a teller at the bank, stated that though it would have been helpful to see a photograph with the man wearing a hat or glasses, she was 70 percent certain the jail inmate was the correct suspect.

The second witness had not been inside the bank during the incident, but had seen the suspect enter the building through the rear. She looked at two photos, and chose the one that was not the 45-year-old man.

Though they had witnesses, authorities also looked at similarities between the US Bank robbery and the two bank robberies in Colorado Springs. In all three robberies, the suspect had facial hair, wore tennis shoes, khaki shorts, glasses and a baseball hat. In addition, a handwritten note was provided to the teller, asking for bills to be in bundles of $20, $50 and $100.

Although a gun was never seen, the man also kept a hand inside a sweatshirt pocket, officials said, making it appear he was handling a weapon.

In the Colorado Springs robberies, $3,250 was taken on June 4 and $2,460 was taken on June 14.

The suspect is currently being held in the El Paso County Jail on $120,000 bond. He faces charges including felony menacing, felony theft and aggravated robbery.
